7 Tips for Choosing The Perfect Elopement Location

While planning an elopement can be easier than planning a full-on wedding, there are a few things you should keep in mind when choosing the perfect location for your elopement.  Here are a few ways you can make sure you choose the perfect place.

Figure out your budget. before you can do anything else, you have to know how much you want to spend. There are some free places you can choose, but many places require a fee of some sort.

Find a spot that has the weather that you want. If you’re traveling to your elopement destination, make sure you do some research about how the weather will be when you plan to get married. You don’t want to end up having a July wedding outdoors in Arkansas if your hair gets extra frizzy in the humidity. Also remember that if you’re going to be changing altitudes for your ceremony, the weather will drop a few degrees the higher up you get. Plan accordingly, and make sure you know what to expect so that your ceremony is perfect.

Choose an easily accessible location. If you’re planning an adventure elopement, you may want to have stunning views in the background of your pictures, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should hike up half a mountain to tie the knot. You don’t want to be sweaty in your wedding pictures, and a dress isn’t exactly easy to hike in! Ask your photographer for some suggestions if you’re having trouble finding a good spot!

Bring the right paperwork. Some places may require licenses or permits to get married. A quick Google search will tell you what you need to know and help you find the paperwork you need.

Is your elopement spot pet-friendly? Make sure your furbaby is allowed to be your best man before the day of. Some places haven’t realized that our pets are basically humans just yet, and we want to avoid any unnecessary surprises.

Is it intimate enough?  Many public places, like national parks, have people around at all times. If this is something that will upset you, be sure that it is either relatively secluded or that you can rent it out for a private event.

Do you have the right photographer? Not all wedding photographers specialize in elopements, so be sure you choose someone who knows how to make the most out of an elopement. Reach out so we can talk about how to make your day unforgettable!
